More about mindfulness

Mindfulness is a practice through which we become aware of the different aspects of our experience in the present moment. Therefore, we resort to the following question: are we addicted to distraction?

Being busy makes us feel good because it distracts us and keeps us at a safe distance from many problems, but we must know that being busy is not the same as being important. The reality is that people do things without stopping with the goal of reaching the top, but what is the sense of reaching the top, if the road has not travelled the right way? We must become aware that we do not need more time in our life, but we need more quietness in order to not increase our anxiety to do and not stop doing things. For this, we can apply the technique of mindfulness in our day to day, how?

A good way to start with this practice would be to carry it out from the moment we get up, in that moment we should be able to be in the here and now, that is, living in the present. We must pay attention to our physical sensations, our state of mind ... we could do the same in the shower, appreciating every detail like the smell of soap, the sensation of water falling on our body, the thermal sensation ... we would do the same when for example we brush our teeth or have breakfast. When we focus on the present, we can become capable of paying attention to our breathing, posture, movements that we make at every moment, perceiving the sensations through the senses, and above all, getting negative thoughts and distractions to take over of us and interrupt our practice.

Considering the practice of mindfulness from an educational perspective, it has been proved that it helps to combat the stress that many students experience. It is a resource for emotional education, where they focus on what is stress and how to relax and being aware of what they do at every time. For adults but especially for children, at the beginning is a technique that may not create too much adherence, but after several sessions, people who practice mindfulness get to improve their mood and performance. In the case of children, it is estimated that a good time to carry out this technique is at the end of the day, along with the help of teachers who have received specific training. The results of mindfulness in children have proved that thanks to this technique they have managed to improve their school performance, since they are able to control their nerves and knowing how to prioritize those things that they believe are important and those that are not.

Finally, there are many ways to carry out this technique, but among them we can highlight those activities that consist on lying down, closing the eyes, listening to the sounds that are given around us and above all, paying attention to our breathing, which in the case of children could be done by placing their hands on their abdomen and feeling how it goes up and down.
